News Archives Keynote Address By Publisher
of New GLBT
On Tuesday, October 22nd, CPCSM held its annual fall membership meeting at Carondelet Center. The highlight of the evening was the keynote address delivered in a very upbeat and vivacious manner by DeAnna Miller, publisher of Queue Press, a monthly magazine for the Twin Cities GLBT community -- and the first local GLBT publication ever to have a regular religion and spirituality section. Also a student in the graduate theology program at the College of St. Catherine, DeAnna provided interesting information and insights about the mainstream press and its coverage of GLBT issues, and about the history of the GLBT press and its coverage of religious and spiritual issues. She also shared her own journey in founding the Queue Press and in shaping the publication's editorial vision. (For the complete transcript of Ms. Miller's presentation, please click here.) In other agenda items of the evening, the new slate of officers and other Board members were elected and the budget was approved by voice votes. Besides introducing and welcoming new board members, the CPCSM leadership team, represented by Board President, Susan Hames, CSJ, also expressed its appreciation and presented a gift certificate to Roger Urbanski, who was retiring as Board treasurer, for his 20-plus years working with CPCSM in a number of different capacities. In addition to his work over the last two years as treasurer, Roger was also acknowledged for his 20-plus years of dedicated work in his deaconal ministry -- along with his wife Donna -- among families with GLBT members and for his efforts on other projects as a Board member. (Also see article in most recent issue of the Rainbow Spirit (cover page) for more details about Roger and Donna's ministry work.)
